Small device lets us measure how sustainable a product is in the supermarket

About the episode

Tomorrow the ‘Gala of a powerful climate’ will take place in Utrecht. In a small preview you will hear more about a device no bigger than a matchbox with which you and I can measure very special things in the supermarket.

Such as: am I dealing with a real organic chicken here? Or: how many different materials does this packaging consist of? And ultimately even: what is the ecological footprint of the product I intend to buy?

We also discuss why it is not always immediately possible to actually use technological innovations in this area and what we can do about the feeling that it doesn’t matter what you do on your own.

In this audio you hear Jeroen Jansen, associate professor of analytical chemistry at Radboud University and Marije Klomp, sustainability program director, also at Radboud University. Last year she was even named sustainability manager
of the year.
