Chairman: We were dangerous
The year 2023/24 brought another big surprise. This time it was born in the fourth division Boleráz, which defeated Púchov 3:1 on its home turf.
Boleráz is a village with two thousand inhabitants from the Trnava district. Despite the fact that it only plays in the regional competition, it managed to beat the second team of the second league.
The home team was already winning 2:0 in the 13th minute, when Dušan Dzíbela won from two penalties. In the 20th minute, Marek Planeta adjusted for a class difference – 3:0.
After the change of sides, the guests tried to do something with the result, but they only managed to correct the score to 3:1. In the 57th minute, Timotej Vavrík prevailed.
Boleráz defeated a club from the second league for the first time in history.
“It’s a great success, but it must be said that we deserved to win. I don’t know if the visitors underestimated us, but from the beginning we were extremely dangerous in the opponent’s penalty area and created many chances.
After the change of sides, we saved the result with an artistic game and we are going to celebrate. I thank all the players for a quality performance,” TJ Slavoj Boleráz chairman Ľubomír Krišica enthusiastically told Sportnet.
In the next round, the better of the pair Horná Krupá/Beluša awaits Boleráz.
Boleráz is dangerous on its turf, last year it tormented the winner of the Slovnaft Cup, FC Spartak Trnava, to whom it lost on penalty kicks in the second round. After ninety minutes, the score was 1:1.
The Hamšík family are moving on
In the next match, Marek Hamšík’s Academy confirmed its role as a favorite, winning clearly 5:1 in the fourth division Príbelcie. In the past, Příbelec tormented the favorites from the highest competitions in the cup, but this time the fate of the match was decided before the break.
In the next round, Hamšík will challenge the winner of the Tatran Čierny Balog/Podbrezová match.
The last match was a holiday for the football players of the fifth league Tomášoviec, who hosted an opponent from the second league for the first time. The home team gave a fighting performance, but they were not enough for the big favorite.
The leader of the second league from Komárno won 5:1 and will challenge the better of the Fiľakovo/Banská Štiavnica pair in the next round.

The cup competition will have a record number of participants this year. A total of 280 teams will compete for the trophy, which is 25 more than last season.
31 clubs from the Bratislava Football Association, 72 from the West Slovak Football Association, 73 from the Central Slovak Football Association, 47 from the East Slovak Football Association, 12 from the Fortunalists, 14 from the Second Division and 31 from the Third Division applied for the 2023/2024 Slovnaft Cup.
