When the folding clamshell appeared on the market, manufacturers thought of the external display only as an “additional” display. In particular, Samsung offers it in miniature form until today, while the display fulfills a purely informative role and the environment displayed on it has a very limited possibility of use. The simultaneously announced Razr had a much larger external display from the first generation, and the Oppo Find N2 Flip only recently made the external display even bigger. Samsung is also preparing to take the same step, but this year’s Razr will have the largest external panel.
You can see the future form of the smartphone in the renders Motorola Razr (2023), their source is leaker Evan Blass (aka @evleaks), so we can take the form of the phone as a given thanks to its rich history of leaks. This year’s Razr will thus receive a display that will fill the vast majority of the outer surface. In the closed state, there will only be a black stripe about a centimeter above it. And since cameras must also be taken into account, they will be placed in three display openings. We are talking about two lenses that will slightly protrude directly from the display, as well as an LED that will be aligned with the surrounding display surface.
The external display of the upcoming Motorola Razr will have a sufficient diagonal so that you don’t even have to open the clamshell in certain cases
The renders also show us the appearance of the user interface that will be available on the external display. The area to the left of the cameras will replace the top notification bar from regular Android. By double-tapping the notifications, the details will appear in the rest of the display. You can expect full control of the system, because you can launch any application from the standby screen. You can either choose from quick shortcuts or directly from the main menu.
Apparently, we are looking at a display with a diagonal of about 3.5 inches, on which it could finally be possible to control the clamshell phone properly without having to open it every time. And in that case, it would be a dream come true for lovers of compact phones, because you practically cannot find anything smaller on the market from well-known brands.
