In the aftermath of the American National Day, Nicholas Gioacchini joined the United States to join the selection with the star-spangled banner, this Monday, July 5, 2021. Retained by the coach Gregg Berhalter, the striker of the Stade Malherbe Caen (Calvados) will participate in the Gold Cup, the equivalent of the Euro for the Concacaf zone (North, Central America and the Caribbean), from July 10 to 1is August 2021.
First international competition
A great satisfaction for the center forward, who experienced an upset end of the 2020/21 season with SM Caen:
It’s always a good surprise, but the coach has always kept in touch with me. It is always a pride to represent your country.
Convened for the first time with Team USA in November 2020, Gioacchini distinguished himself by achieving a double for his first start, against Panama (6-2). But this time, no more question of friendlies. “This is the first time that I’m going to participate in an international competition, a very respected competition,” he says. I couldn’t be happier! “
The weed attacker has one more reason to be happy about this call: the three group matches of the American team are played in Kansas City, his hometown. Straddling the states of Kansas and Missouri, the city is characterized by very hot temperatures at this time of year:
I know the conditions well, even though I haven’t been back for ten years. I am curious to see how the city has evolved and to discover the atmosphere. When I left, soccer was not as popular as it is now. Now, the MLS has developed well.
Author of 6 goals in 46 Ligue 2 matches with SM Caen, Nicholas Gioacchini intends to shake the opposing nets this summer, on the other side of the Atlantic. The United States face, for their entry in the running, one of the three teams qualified at the end of the playoffs, Sunday July 11, then Martinique (Thursday July 15) and finally Canada (Sunday July 18). But there is no doubt that the Caennais hopes to extend his stay until the final on August 1, scheduled for Paradise, near Las Vegas.
