Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – HP market in Indonesia is bleeding. Indonesian citizen seems to be still cautious about shopping for smartphones, given the unstable macroeconomic conditions.
According to Counterpoint Monthly Indonesia Tracker data, cellphone shipments in Indonesia as a whole fell 8.1% YoY in Q1 2023 after the Q4 2022 shopping season.
This decrease was driven by mid-range to premium HP which fell 25.7% YoY.
The ‘Top 6’ line of HP kings in RI in Q1 2023 are Oppo, Samsung, Vivo, Realme, Xiaomi and Infinix respectively.
Among that list, only Infinix has a positive growth of 36.4% YoY. Other vendors must be willing to record minus reports.
Samsung and Oppo fell 6.5% and 6.7%, respectively. Xiaomi saw a sharp drop of 20.2%. Meanwhile, Realme and Vivo fell 1.7% and 24.5%, respectively.
Infinix suddenly sold out
Infinix is included in low-cost or entry-level HP, where this segment grows 2% YoY in Q1 2023.
Infinix experienced a growth of 44.6% YoY.
The main attraction of Infinix itself includes RAM or larger storage than competitors. As in the Infinix Hot 12, Hot 20 and Note 12 series.
According to data from Counterpoint, Indonesian people still prefer smartphones that are affordable or are having price promotions during this economic recovery.
