[칼럼니스트-양은미] When raising a baby, we think that the child is growing up healthily by seeing the baby eat well, pack well, and sleep well. Even as an adult, when you think about your physical health, it’s not much different. If you can eat well, go to the bathroom, do things comfortably, and get a good night’s sleep, you think you’re in good health. Of course, mental health is more important than when you were a baby, but once you look at your physical health, it is. Eating and excreting are important measures of a healthy life. The organs in our body that are in charge of this important work are the intestines and kidneys. Dr. Hiroshi Ito talks about the importance of slowing down the aging of the intestines and kidneys in his book 『Slow down the time of organs』. However, the intestines and kidneys of modern people are very difficult. People often naturally overeat with plenty of food, and when it comes to springtime, harmful yellow dust and fine dust enter the body, and daily routines, whether children or adults, have become much more complex and busy than before. So, how busy was Janggi?

The first thing I feel after turning half of my life around is that my digestive function has dropped. When I’m stressed and overeating, I keep feeling sick to my stomach. You know that time is passing because your appearance is visible on the outside, but the organs inside are invisible, so you know that the organs are weakened only when symptoms appear. When I was young, my organs were young, so I was able to handle heavy tasks well, but as I got older, my organs function deteriorated, so I can’t work as quickly as I used to. Maybe that’s why, when I have a lot of things to worry about lately, I often suffer from a sudden upset stomach. With this in mind, I suddenly went to Dr. Hiroshi Ito’s book titled “Healthy 100 Years Old, Gut and Kidney Determined”.
■ Long term time
people don’t live forever Each has an expiration date. Humans have many organs, such as the heart, brain, kidneys, intestines, and stomach. As a person ages, these organs age with them. When an organ such as the heart or brain dies, a person’s life

The name also ends. Dr. Hiroshi Ito likens that each shogi has its own hourglass, and when all the sand falls to the bottom, the shogi’s time ends. And the speed at which sand in this organ falls is called ‘long-term time’, and over time, when the function of an organ is impaired, the speed at which the sand falls is faster, and when the sand runs out to the floor, the life of the organ is over, so the aging of the organ Explain that you need to slow down so that you can live a long and healthy life. Like the title of the book, enjoying a healthy age of 100 is determined by the intestines and kidneys, so you must take good care of your intestines and kidneys.
Blood circulates in the human body and supplies nutrients and oxygen necessary for life. So, the lifeline of an organ is blood vessels. It is the amount of blood that determines the ‘time of the organ’. When blood vessels are narrowed or blocked due to atherosclerosis, the amount of blood supplied to the brain or heart is insufficient, resulting in life-threatening cerebral infarction or myocardial infarction. As such, blood vessel health is really important. Then, which organ uses the most blood? Perhaps ordinary people without specialized medical knowledge will think of the brain as I do. However, it is said that the intestines account for the most with 30% of the blood, followed by the kidneys with 20% and the brain and skeletal muscles with 15%. Therefore, in the ‘long-term’, the intestines and kidneys progress the fastest and are prone to aging.
You often hear the phrase ‘the root of all diseases is stress’. That’s right. Stress ages not only your appearance, but also your organs. So, one of the factors that advance the ‘long-term time’ is ‘stress’. The kidneys are responsible for disposing of waste products in the body and assisting the heart in distributing oxygen to each organ. So when there is not enough oxygen, the kidneys get stressed and work actively. When that happens, the ‘long-term time’ of the kidneys also speeds up. If this condition persists, it is easy to get high blood pressure or chronic kidney disease.
Intestinal stress is overeating. If you eat a lot, the intestines have to move busily, so it’s natural in a way. This stress response leads to obesity or diabetes. Is that why? What often appears in the health secrets of longevity old people are eating small meals, taking care of mental health, and proper exercise and sound sleep. Long-lived seniors are already practicing the habit of delaying ‘long-term time’ in their lives, so they live a long and healthy life.
Dr. Hiroshi Ito has suggested several more ways to slow down the time of organs. The brain is a ‘control tower of the senses’ and plays a role in transmitting and controlling information coming from each organ. So, since it is important for the brain to play a stable role, it is suggested that the brain create a lot of good memories and events that can change the mood. Feeling beautiful creates good memories, allows the brain to rest, and slows down the ‘long-term’. A person who feels beauty well can live a long and healthy life. It also advises maintaining good relationships with people around you, being impressed by delicious food, and enjoying beauty.
■ Long-term care by age group
Dr. Hiroshi Ito suggested ways to care for organs by age group. In your 20s and 30s, when you are healthy, it is the time to train your organs to build strong organs. In your 40s, you should start long-term care in earnest, and you should manage your organs so that they do not get sick due to wrong lifestyle. The results of this management in their 40s appear in their 50s. At this time, it is necessary to manage health through early detection through regular health checkups to see if there are any abnormalities in the organs. People in their 60s need to do a lot of sensory activities to prevent cognitive decline. It is better to listen to the radio or read a book than to watch TV. There is no time to think about TV or video because information comes in in an instant. However, since the information coming in through text can think about the meaning of the information and reconstruct and convert it into an image in the head, it is good for cognitive health. It’s good for brain activity because there’s a lot of work to do. In the 70s, the aging of the organs has progressed considerably, so it is necessary to take good care of them so that they do not suddenly stop functioning. So, I advise you to try to build beautiful good memories.
■ Slow down the time of the organ called the brain
Dr. Hiroshi Ito first introduced the concept of ‘metabolic domino’, in which diseases caused by metabolic syndrome cause a chain reaction like dominoes. Overeating and lack of exercise cause obesity and accumulate visceral fat, resulting in hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, and cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. The start of metabolic domino is the wrong lifestyle, which can soon develop into metabolic syndrome. However, metabolic syndrome is a major cause of dementia. After all, long-term care is dementia prevention, and the starting point is a good lifestyle.

In the 100-year-old era, people’s lifespan is increasing, and dementia is becoming a major concern in old age. Senile dementia is also a burden, but early dementia (dementia that develops before the age of 65) is rapidly increasing. Dr. Hiroshi Ito emphasizes care for the intestines and kidneys among organs. In addition to this, I would like to add that starting in your 40s, you need to take care of your brain. Early dementia should be prevented and managed from the age of 30 to 40. Dementia, like metabolic syndrome, is a lifestyle disease. Every year, news about a cure for Alzheimer’s disease, the representative dementia, is heard, but it is important to prevent dementia through a good lifestyle.
