Slow vaccination of people against Covid-19 will cost the global economy $ 2.3 trillion / Day

The EIU points out that developing and emerging economies, whose vaccination lags far behind the richer countries, will be forced to bear the brunt of these losses.

The study concludes that countries that will not be able to vaccinate 60% of the population by mid-2022 will suffer losses equivalent to two trillion euros between 2022 and 2025.

“Developing countries will bear about two-thirds of these losses, further delaying their economic convergence with more developed countries,” explains the EIU.

The study states that Asia-Pacific will suffer the most in absolute terms, while sub-Saharan Africa will suffer the most in terms of percentage of GDP.

By the end of August, around 60% of the population in higher-income countries had received at least one dose of Covid-19 vaccine, compared with only 1% in poor countries, according to the EIU.
