Slow and gradual decline of the Rhône, roads still closed and traffic disrupted

Updated on 18/10/2024

Flooding of the Cevennes rivers has been happening since yesterday evening. Flood peaks were reached during the night and the subsidence has begun throughout the entire Rhône, which is now placed at a yellow warning level. This decline is slow and progressive, traffic is still limited in some areas where overflows have been observed.

– For the north of the region (Lamotte-du-Rhône, Lapalud, Mondragon, Caderousse), the Pont-Saint-Esprit station, a reference point for the region, records a water height of 7.12 meters at 7:30 am – today. At 1pm, this is expected for 7.07 metres. With the exception of the RN86, the roads closed yesterday remain closed:

– RD238- between Caderousse and Codolet

– RD237- between Caderousse and Roquemaure

– RD994- between the Bout du Pont roundabout and the Gard (Vieux Bridge)

RD44– Mondragon

RD63– between Lapalud and Pont-Saint-Esprit

– RD63A- between Lamotte-sur-Rhône and Lapalud

A gradual reopening will be done according to the recession.

– In Avignon, the flood level is 5.28 meters at 7:30 am. The forecast calls for a flood level of 5.05 meters at 1pm. Traffic is a major concern and the alleys of Oulle are still completely closed to traffic as well as the regional 225 (Dr Pons road) for a large part of the day.
