A Slovenian woman has been found guilty of fraud by the court in Ljubljana because she deliberately lost her hand in the year after her insurance increased significantly. As a result, she was awaiting compensation of more than a million euros. Instead, she now faces two years in prison, writes BBC News.
According to the woman, Julija A., she lost her hand while she was trimming the hedge, but the Slovenian justice does not want to participate.
Research shows that the day before the ‘accident’ took place, A. searched the internet several times to see what a fake hand could mean for her. A. also left the sawn-off hand at home on purpose when she went to hospital with her wound. According to the court, she did this to make the disability definitive.
However, the Slovenian hospital narrowly managed to save its hand and successfully put it back.
A. has denied guilty throughout the trial. Her boyfriend has been identified as an accomplice and has been sentenced to three years in prison.
