Slovenian Savšek wins first gold medal in canoe slalom at his Tokyo Olympics – Sports

Benjamin Savšek won the first gold medal for the Slovenian Olympic team, winning the men’s canoe slalom on Monday.

Less than four seconds behind Slovenia, Lukasz Rohan won the silver medal. The bronze medal was won by Sideris Tasiadis, a German vice-champion of the 2012 Olympic Games, who was 5.45 seconds behind the leader.

Savšek’s victory puts an end to the dominance of Slovakia and France in this discipline. Both countries have distributed all gold medals since the 1996 Atlanta Olympics in this discipline.

Frenchman Thomas Marten was in fifth place, but Slovak Matthew Beensch was in sixth.

On Monday, the participants were helped by the cloudy skies at the Kasai slalom center next to Tokyo Bay, where the warm water on Sunday was hampered by the warm water.

Australian athlete Jessica Fox said the water was as warm as a bath.

The canoe slalom competition at the Tokyo Olympics will continue until July 30.

On Saturday, Slovenia’s first medal at the Tokyo Olympics was won by road cyclist Tadej Pogačar, who took third place in the 234-kilometer distance.

The Tokyo Olympics will run until August 8.
