The Mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, has participated in the awards ceremony of the 79th edition of La Vuelta Ciclista a España. Slovenian cyclist Primož Roglič has won the first prize of ‘La Vuelta’, and Swiss cyclist Stefan Küng has managed to win the last stage.
Accompanied by the Deputy Mayor, Inma Sanz, the Delegate for Culture, Tourism and Sport, Marta Rivera de la Cruz, and the Councillor for Sport, Sonia Cea, Almeida attended the end of this last stage, the 21st, which began in the Telefónica District, in Fuencarral-El Pardo, and finished on the Gran Vía. A total of 24.6 kilometres were covered through the streets of the capital in an individual time trial race.
The 2024 Vuelta Ciclista a España has covered a total of 3,265 kilometres since it began on 17 August in neighbouring Portugal. The Plaza de Cibeles hosted the awards ceremony, as well as various activities throughout the afternoon.
Primož Roglič finished the race in first position, while Ben O’Connor and Enric Mas took second and third place in the general classification, respectively.
