Slovenian Parliament approves government of new Prime Minister Robert Golob / Article

53 deputies voted in favor of approving the Cabinet of Ministers, but 28 voted against.

As a result, the government of the former Prime Minister Janez Janša has resigned.

The Holocaust-led Liberal Alliance, which has so far been in opposition, won the most votes in the April 24 parliamentary elections. It has formed a government with two left-wing parties.

Speaking before the government was approved, Golob promised that his cabinet would implement reforms and a green course, as well as promote social equality.

The populist Janša, who leads the conservative Democratic Party of Slovenia, has been prime minister since 2020 and led the government from 2004 to 2008 and 2012-2013. He is criticized for authoritarianism and restrictions on media freedom.
