The Slovenian national team has started preparations for the World Cup with a victory over China (75:73) and two losses against Greece (91:98, 77:88). The biggest loss is in the person of 26-year-old Čančar, and Slovenian main star Luka Dončić did not finish the game due to minor health problems as a precaution. At the World Cup in Okinawa, the Slovenians will be in the same group with Cape Verde, Venezuela and Georgia, which capitulated tonight with 57:82 in Riga.

Čančar, who was drafted with number 49 in 2017, has played in Slovenia, Serbia and Spain in Europe, but since 2019 he has been in the Denver “Nuggets” organization. This was the most successful regular season of his NBA career, starting nine of sixty games and averaging 5.0 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 14.8 minutes. In the playoffs, in which the “Nuggets” won their first title, Chanchar’s role was minimal – he participated in only five matches, played an average of two minutes and scored no points.
Çanchar also has the European gold in 2017, and in that final tournament he averaged 2.4 points in 14.5 minutes. In last year’s European Championship, Canchar already played an average of 29.9 minutes and stood out with 11.6 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.9 assists. Chanchar will be in the second season of a three-year, $6.8 million contract.
