Slovenia and Austria continue to struggle with flooding caused by heavy rains that have forced the evacuation of hundreds of people.
In Slovenia, rescue services responded to 186 calls overnight Sunday, including evacuating people from dangerous buildings, clearing fallen trees and delivering food and medicine to trapped people.
On Saturday evening, around 500 people were evacuated from the village of Dolnja Bistrica, in the east of the country, where flooding started in the Mur River after a dam broke.
85 Dutch citizens were also evacuated from the flooded areas and are scheduled to be taken back to the Netherlands by bus today, the media reported. The tourists were not injured, but their cars were badly damaged.
The Dutch foreign ministry said five Dutch nationals who were reported missing on Saturday had been found and were unharmed, but two Dutch nationals had died.
Many people in flooded areas have taken shelter in temporary shelters, waiting for conditions to improve.
The water level in the Mura River remains high, but is stable. On the other hand, the water level of Sava, the largest river in Slovenia, has decreased.
Although water levels are falling, high soil moisture increases the risk of landslides, Slovenian authorities have warned.
More than a hundred people were also evacuated near Slovenia’s border with Austria, which also continues to struggle with the effects of the floods.
