The government of Slovenia is allocating 7 billion euros for the recovery work after the severe floods at the beginning of August. Prime Minister Robert Golob has reported this to the Slovenian parliament. Due to high water levels and heavy rainfall, several regions in Slovenia experienced flooding in the past month.
According to the prime minister, the damage is estimated at 4.7 billion euros. In addition to repairing the damage, the 7 billion euros must also provide more protection against new natural disasters.
“The worst natural disaster in Slovenian history,” Golob previously called the floods. Due to the wet ground, there were also landslides. Fields, streets and buildings were flooded. At least six people were killed in the floods, including two Dutch people.
The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, has pledged 400 million euros for the repair work. Slovenia may also be entitled to other EU funds to repair the damage.
