He wore the jersey of Ferencváros for two years and enjoyed winning the championship twice with the club. With the most famous Hungarian club, he experienced great moments, but also those that he might very much like to erase, but despite this, as he also told ŠPORT.sk, “Fradi” grew close to his heart. Therefore, Michal Škvarka would be pleased if his former club, as well as Slovan, could be promoted.

He would rather be on the field than in the stands
Michal Škvarka admitted that he was already very pleased with the first possible connection between Slovan and Ferencváros, which was decided by the Nyon draw. However, both teams still had to play their matches in the 1st preliminary round, in which the Budapest team faced Kazakhstan’s Tobola Kostanaj and Slovan faced Georgia’s Dinamo Batumi.
“Yes, I was pleased. Whether from the point of view of fan camps or overall rivalry. Two clubs with a great history would meet. Somehow, I didn’t admit it to myself until both clubs managed their rematches and then it was already clear that they would play against each other.
I’m really looking forward to this doubleheader because it’s going to be great spectacle. I booked the tickets right away, because I simply have to see something like this.” smiled the soon-to-be 30-year-old creative midfielder, who, however, insists that he will watch the match only as a spectator.
“Of course, something like that will certainly freeze a person. It would be amazing to play in such a match against Slovan and in a Ferencváros shirt. It’s a huge shame for me as a player. But, let’s hope that I will enjoy the match enough in the stands as well,” Michal Škvarka wished.

Who will keep his fingers crossed? Slovan or Ferencváros?
He played 237 matches in MŠK Žilina and faced Slovan Bratislava several times, and in two cases he was on the winning side in the fight for the Slovak championship title. Therefore, he considers the “White” team to be a great rival from the past, and even more so because he later defended the colors of Ferencváros, with whom he developed a warm relationship.
That’s why things got really complicated for Michal Škvarek when he asked who he would keep his fingers crossed for. “First of all, I will support good football,” began diplomatically, “However, I must honestly admit that it is beating inside me. Of course, I’m keeping my fingers crossed for Slovak football and the teams in cup Europe so that our clubs improve the overall coefficient, but on the other hand, I have a very good relationship with Ferencváros.”

“Excellent people work in the club, it has fantastic fans, and when I played there, I felt very good there. Anyone who knows me knows that Žilina is first and foremost in my heart, but ‘Fradi’ definitely has its place there as well. I will definitely keep my fingers crossed for Slovan because of the coefficient, but as I said before, it’s beating in me. Above all, I believe that the spectators will come to their senses and it will be a celebration of football.” he stated.
“I expected this question, but you can’t prepare for it in advance,” Michal Škvarka laughed, “it would be absolutely best if they could both advance.”

According to Škvark, Ferencváros has better chances
Betting companies have much more faith in the Hungarian champion before the first match. And Michal Škvarka also thinks that the “white and green” will be the bigger favorites to advance.
“But it doesn’t have to be decisive right away, because the reality will be revealed only on the field. Both teams have wide and excellent squads with several very high-quality players, so it will definitely be an excellent double match.” he chatted.
“But ‘Fradi’ will definitely have an advantage now, because it is very difficult for the guests to play in the Grupama Arena. The fans know how to create an amazing atmosphere and this match is sure to be sold out. But when we talk about the game itself, in my opinion, Ferencváros will be the bigger favorite. I saw both his matches with Tobol Kostanaj and also Slovan with Dinamo Batumi, and I would say that ‘Fradi’ is in a better playing mood.” the native of Martin thinks.

“On the other hand, Slovan had a tougher opponent than Ferencváros. Batumi showed great quality and were a very tough opponent. It could be tighter, but the home environment also works in favor of ‘Fradi’. In addition, the result from Podbrezova certainly did not help Slovan in any way. But, as I said before, it will only show itself on the field.” he added.

It hurt more than an injury
For Michal Škvarka, it was not always easy in the capital of Hungary. He joined the club in the summer of 2019 and after a slow start gradually became a stable member of the starting line-up.
‘Fradi’ also helped in the European Cups, when in the first season he reached the 3rd preliminary round of the Champions League, where he crashed against the Croatian Dinamo Zagreb. He eventually played in the group stage of the Europa League with Ferencváros.
A year later, a painful wound came. But not because of the injury. Michal Škvarka continued to play, he also participated in the fights in the initial phase of the Champions League, and when Ferencváros sensationally managed to advance to the group, Ukrainian coach Sergej Rebrov left the Slovak out of the roster. Matches with Juventus, Dynamo Kyiv a FC Barcelona he watched only as a spectator.

“It was very difficult. When I imagine that as a little boy with chips in my hand and glued to the screen I was watching the big matches of the Champions League group with my father, listening to their anthem, it was something amazing. It gave me chills. I have always wanted to play it and I believe that I will be able to do it once in my life.” you wished
And with sadness in his voice he continued: “That’s why I have to say that maybe even injuries wouldn’t hurt me as much in football as when I learned that I wouldn’t play with ‘Fradi’ in the Champions League group. When a person lives his whole life for football and then comes so close to fulfilling a big dream, it’s really terrible. Although I realize that health is paramount, but this hurt me a lot. Moreover, when I could play against Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi then. If I sin,” laughed.

He believes that there will be no conflicts
The battle for promotion to the 3rd preliminary round of the Champions League between Slovan and Ferencváros brings not only a big football clash between the rivals, but also possible problems between the fans. The security forces will have to be in full force and on the utmost vigilance in both capitals.
However, Michal Škvarka stated that he never had a bad experience with the feared hard core of fans of the Hungarian club. “I personally have never experienced any conflicts. I basically only saw them in the stadium and they were fantastic there. But I can imagine that it will definitely be heated in the match against Slovan. It will be whipped up, but I hope there will be no wild conflicts. I believe that nothing like that will happen and people will enjoy good football first of all.” he wishes.

Wsila is already in the past, now he is looking for a new club
After leaving Budapest, he signed with no less famous Wisla Krakowwhere the coach took him to the club Adrian Guľa. Unfortunately, the season in Poland ended in a huge failure as one of the Ekstraklasa’s most traditional clubs was relegated after 26 long years. Guľa finished in the spring and Michal Škvarka a few days ago.
He is now looking for a new employer. “We terminated the contract with Wisla Kraków only a week ago. I expected it to go faster, but there were still some details that needed to be worked out. Since I was still tied to the club, I couldn’t move on. Now everything is resolved and I am working with an agent on a new engagement. I don’t have anything concrete on the table yet,” revealed Škvarka, who did not deny that he could return to Slovakia.
His name was also associated with Guľová Dunajská Streda. “For now, I can’t rule out anything at all. I’m still just starting out, so we’ll see where my steps lead. I believe that something nice awaits me, but the decisive thing for me will be the sports side and also the club’s ambitions,” he added to ŠPORT.sk.
