BRATISLAVA – The footballers of SK Slovan Bratislava won the 6th round of the Nike League over Podbrezová 3:2 on Sunday, when they turned the score around with two goals in extra time.
The home team thus improved their appetite after a heavy loss of 2:6 at Aris Limassol in the rematch of the European League playoffs. They have played only four matches in the domestic competition this season, currently they are in sixth place with eight points. Podbrezová is fourth with ten.
Slovan completed a home competition match after more than three weeks. He last appeared on August 12 at Skalice, where he recorded his first triumph of the season (2:1). He dominated the game in the first half, but was unable to break through the visitors’ defense. Only Tigran Barsejgan scored with an exhibition shot from outside the penalty area.
Podbrezová was dangerous especially after the break and Slovan could not get back up to speed. Although the double substitution brought two great chances, neither Barsegghan nor the substitute Strelec took advantage of them. “Whites” were punished in the 78th minute by Mark Assinor, who beat Borjan with a shot to the far post and Marek Kristián Bartoš also headed from close range. The home team turned in a heart attack finish in extra time. First, captain Guram Kašia headed towards the post, and Barsejjan went around goalkeeper Richard Ludha a moment later. He scored the winning goal into an empty net.
