The day before the match, fans of the Hungarian Ferencváros attacked a bus with football players of Slovan Bratislava. However, in Wednesday’s match of the second preliminary round of the Champions League, they repaid them. They unexpectedly won 2:1 in Budapest.
The expected match between the Hungarian and Slovak champions already had a dramatic prelude on Tuesday evening.
After the press conference, Ferencváros fans attacked the bus with Slovan players with stones, and the Slovak footballers had to be protected by increased police security.
At night, home ultras they went around the city and they were looking for some of the five hundred Slovan supporters who bought a ticket for Wednesday’s duel to settle old national disputes with them.
After all, these were also manifested during the evening duel, when a banner appeared in the corridors of the Groupama Arena: “Stolen land, stolen symbols, no history. Try… Slovakia!”
The match itself was marked by pressure from the home team, who also took the lead thanks to Zachariassen’s goal in the 70th minute.
However, Slovan was able to recover from this hit and also from two shot sticks and turned the game around in the end.
In the 81st minute, Kašia first equalized, and five minutes later Barsegjan snatched victory for the Slovakian side with a beautiful shot at the back post.
The rematch of the explosive duel will be played next Wednesday at Tehelné poli in Bratislava.
