Since last week, they have had a Czech coach (Vladimír Růžička) and a Czech sports director (Rostislav Dočekal). And in the foreseeable future, Slovan Bratislava would also like to be a club that plays in the Czech extra league.
“We want to be strong and the strongest in Slovakia, so that one day we can fight for a place in the Czech Extraliga. When? Everything takes time. In order to go to the Czech league, we must first of all dominate Slovakia. We want to be top here and then we can also think about working in the Czech league,” said Hofstädter.
At the same time, he ruled out moving. On the contrary, his idea is that Slovan would have two teams, one of which would continue to play in the Slovak extra league and the other in the Czech one. “If we were given the opportunity in the Czech league, one team would definitely stay in Slovakia. I don’t want people to perceive that there will be Slovan B in Slovakia. No, it would definitely be an imaginary two A’s. We would not disgrace our name.’
This idea is both ambitious and attractive, but so far it has always failed relatively quickly on the Czech side. Strong Slovak clubs have been yearning to join the Czech extra league for years, but the willingness of the domestic ones to accept their neighbors is no longer so warm. Matches with Slovan or Košice would be tempting for many of them, but financial compensation for travel and accommodation has always been a fundamental and unresolved issue.
Will it turn out the same again, or will Slovan be part of the Czech extra league in a few years?
