According to the preliminary results that have been published after the polling stations closed at 10 pm on Sunday, Pellegrini has received 50.4 percent of the vote, while Korcok gets 49.6 percent.

Pellegrini has previously been prime minister and is a close ally of the populist prime minister Robert Fico.

Prime Minister Robert Fico has, among other things, called Ukraine’s sovereignty into question and halted arms aid to Ukraine, while Korcok is at odds with Ukraine in the war with Russia.

Sunday was the last and decisive round of the presidential election. In the previous round, Korcok got 42.5 percent of the votes, while Pellegrini got 37 percent.
