Before the start of the championship, coach Tibor Tartaľ’s men will have training sessions and a warm-up match against their Finnish peers, which is scheduled for Monday, April 17 at 6:00 p.m. The young Slovaks will play their first match at the World Cup on Thursday, April 20, hockeyslovakia.sk reported.
The team of 18 has not changed since Tuesday’s meeting in Zvolen. 25 players traveled to Switzerland – three goalkeepers, eight defenders and fourteen forwards. The championship roster can contain a maximum of 23 names, of which 20 places are reserved for skaters. However, the remaining two hockey players will continue to train with the team. Their chance may come in case of a teammate’s health problems, which would knock him out until the end of the tournament. Then the coaches have the right to add a substitute.
Video analyst Stanislav Salát completed the implementation team of the Slovakian team. After the tournament of five countries in Poprad, the national coach of the 20-year-old Ivan Feneš will join the team, who will act as a consultant in the lower age category.
After the end of the camp in Zurich, the Slovaks will travel to the venue of the championship. They will play the basic A-group in the town of Porrentruy. On Thursday, April 20, at 6:30 p.m., they will play the opening match against the Czech Republic, a day later at the same time they will challenge the Swedes. After a day off, they will face the Canadians on Sunday, April 23 at 1:00 p.m., and they will conclude their group stage action against Germany on Monday at 6:30 p.m. The first four teams from both groups will advance to the quarterfinals, the teams in the last fifth place will fight for survival among the elite.
