Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Fico is about to travel to Moscow next year. This is reported by the Russian state news agency Tass.
According to Tassi, Fico would participate in the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, or Victory Day, in Moscow.
Fico, who was the target of an assassination attempt in the spring, is known for opposing arms aid to Ukraine, among other things.
– Who prevents me from going to a peaceful event in Moscow next year on the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II? I think I’ll go. Why shouldn’t I go? How does this relate to the present? Tass writes that Fico said.
In Russia, Victory Day is celebrated on May 9, the anniversary of the fall of Nazi Germany. The event is especially known for its military parade on Moscow’s Red Square.
During the large-scale war of aggression launched by Russia against Ukraine in February 2022, no Western leaders have participated in the Victory Day celebration. Slovakia belongs to NATO and is a member of the European Union.
