Slovakian Clubs in European Competitions: Challenges and Successes

BRATISLAVA. It becomes a rule. Over the past five years, Slovakia has been represented in the group stage of European Cup competitions four times.

The exception was the year 2020/21, otherwise Slovan Bratislava played a group in the European Conference League (EKL) twice and before that once in the European League, where Spartak Trnava also qualified five years ago.

Despite the increasingly better coefficient, the journey of most teams begins at the very beginning of the qualification. So they have to go through all the obstacles.

The opening qualifying matches of the Champions League are scheduled for Tuesday 11th and Wednesday 12th July respectively, followed by the Conference League matches on Thursday 14th July. Rematches are played a week later and other stages at the same frequency.

The draw for the 1st qualifying round of European competitions is scheduled for Tuesday, June 20, a day later the pairs of the 2nd qualifying round will be drawn.

Slovan is threatened with execution in Trnava

Why didn’t any Slovak club reach the group stage in the 2020/21 season? In the case of the champion Slovan, it was also about unfairness.
