The body of a 31-year-old Polish climber was found on Saturday (September 5) by rescuers from Horska Zachranna Służba (the equivalent of GOPR) in the Intermediate Ridge massif (2439 m above sea level) in the Slovak part of the High Tatras.

On Saturday afternoon, a companion of the 31-year-old called the headquarters of Horska Zachranna Służba, informing about the climber’s fall. Slovak mountain rescuers from Stary Smokovec set out to help on board the helicopter. After reaching the injured, rescuers found that the Pole fell about 200 meters from the so-called Dubke benches, sustaining fatal injuries.
The climber’s body was transported on board a helicopter to Stary Smokovec.
Slovak rescuers also reported that recently there have been three fatal accidents in the Tatras, which have a common denominator – ignorance of the climbing area, moving without a qualified guide, lack of proper climbing equipment, little climbing experience and overestimating one’s abilities.
“We ask all tourists not to disregard the high-mountain terrain and follow the marked routes and follow the recommendations of Horska Zachranna Służba” – it was written in the release.
