The Ministry of Agriculture of Slovakia on Thursday ordered to ban the processing of grain imported from Ukraine, as well as the sale of Ukrainian grain products on the domestic market.
This is stated in message department that cites “European truth“.
The decision to limit in Slovakia was made after a batch of wheat from Ukraine weighing 1,500 tons, which was sent for threshing, “the presence of the pesticide has been confirmedwhich is not allowed in the EU and has a negative impact on human health.”
“The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, together with subordinate organizations, will ensure the sampling of all grain and flour from Ukraine, which is already stored in Slovakia,” the ministry notes.
All EU member states and Ukrainian Ambassador Miroslav Kastrana will report the results of the analysis of the batch of Ukrainian grain in Slovakia. Separately, this issue will be discussed by the ministers of agriculture of the Visegrad Four countries, as well as Romania and Bulgaria, at a meeting on Friday.
“The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Slovakia does not recommend importing any Ukrainian grain and grain products,” the statement sums up without specifying for how long the restriction is introduced.
Ukraine, one of the world’s largest grain exporters, was unable to export grain across the Black Sea for a long time after the start of a full-scale Russian invasion, which forced it to look for alternative export routes.
A large amount of Ukrainian grain, cheaper than grown in the EU, ended up in the countries of Central Europe. This negatively affected local farmers. Poland announced last week that temporarily stop the import of Ukrainian grainto mitigate the impact on prices, but transit will allow.
