Slovakia has the most new infections in half a year, Poland is facing the fourth wave of the epidemic

There are currently 531 patients with confirmed covid-19 in Slovak hospitals, which is the most since the end of May. More than eighty percent are unvaccinated people.

The Slovak Ministry of Health has previously warned that in the coming weeks there will be more new cases of the disease and patients in hospitals in the country. In vaccination against covid-19, the country of five million lags behind the EU average and the Czech Republic. The first dose vaccinated 2,445,528 people, of whom 2,322,259 received a second dose.

The reason is the low public interest in vaccines. Vaccinations in the country have not previously been supported or criticized by opposition leaders. On the other hand, President Zuzana Čaputová and representatives of the governing coalition repeatedly urged the population to be vaccinated, which they described as a way to manage the third wave of the covid-19 epidemic.

Poland is facing a fourth wave

In Poland, the number of newly confirmed cases of coronavirus infection exceeded 1,200 and the country is facing a fourth wave of pandemics. This was stated by the Minister of Health Adam Niedzielski. The authorities last reported more than 1,200 new cases at the end of May

“Today we have crossed the fourth wave,” Niedzielski told Radio Plus. According to unconfirmed data, 1,230 people were infected on Tuesday, 975 the day before. “It’s a significant jump from week to week,” the minister added, adding that the fourth wave is developing in line with expert estimates.

Already on Tuesday, he warned on Twitter that Poland is currently facing a more contagious coronavirus mutation. In a country of approximately 38 million people, less than 19.4 million people are fully vaccinated against covid.

Rise in Germany as well

The number of new infections rose week after week in Germany, with a further 11,780 cases on Tuesday, up from 10,454 a week ago and 7409 on Tuesday. but it is falling, now it is at 61, while a week ago this figure was 65.

Austria has not yet released the figures for Tuesday, but two days ago the Kronen Zeitung wrote that the numbers were rising again and the seven-day incidence in Austria was 133 on Monday. The disease is now spreading mainly in Salzburg. The current peak was in mid-September and then the number of cases began to decline slowly. In Germany, the last peak was around September 10.
