Slovakia has a new Attorney General. “Let those who do not have a clear conscience be afraid,” Czech Television told ČT24

President Zuzana Čaputová appointed Žilina as the Attorney General. In his speech, the head of the Slovak state pointed out that the prosecutor’s office had failed in the past in the duty of impartiality and did not use the same meter.

“For many years, the law was applied differently against ordinary people and differently against influential persons, who were given a special approach thanks to connections. Exponents of power and their clients were reliably protected from the consequences of their actions. This era not only must end, but it must end in consequences so that it cannot be repeated, “said the Slovak president, who is herself a lawyer.

Fifty-year-old Žilinka will want to fix it in her new position. “I want to make sure I stay true to my sign, which is the lion. Let those who do not have a clear conscience fear. Let those who violate the law be afraid, “said the new Attorney General, who was supported by a large majority of coalition and opposition deputies in the parliamentary election.

Doubts about Žilina’s contacts

Fifty-year-old Žilinka joined the elite component of the Slovak Prosecutor’s Office in 2005, in which he worked as a representative of the Department of Economic Crime before his appointment as Attorney General. From 2010 to 2012, Žilinka held the position of Deputy Minister of the Interior. He replaced Jaromír Čižnár at the head of the prosecutor’s office, whose seven-year term ended in the summer.

Shortly before the appointment of the new head of the Slovak prosecutor’s office, however, doubts arose about Žilina. It turned out that he was in contact with politicians through an alleged lobbyist close to the former government party, and the deputy speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, Juraj Šeliga, accused him of lying in this connection. Žilinka denied that anyone would lobby politicians for his election.

According to earlier information from the police, Žilinka, together with another prosecutor and also a well-known lawyer, were to become victims of hired murders. Criminalists suspect Alena Zsuzsová of participating in the preparation of the crime, who has so far been illegally acquitted of the case of the previous year’s murder of journalist Ján Kuciak and his partner, and in another case of murder again found guilty by a court of first instance.
