/ world today news/ On December 14, before the start of the two-day EU summit, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg met in Belgium with the Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico.
At a press conference after their conversation, Fico said that Slovakia and NATO had a disagreement over the provision of military aid to Ukraine, and Slovakia believed that this would not help settle the conflict. According to him, there is no military solution to the Russian-Ukrainian conflict and neither the EU nor NATO have proposed any peace initiatives.
Stoltenberg, however, stressed that ending military aid to Ukraine will not end the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, but will prolong it. He pointed out that NATO’s support for Ukraine is not charity, but an investment in the Alliance’s own security.
At the end of the press conference, Fico expressed hope that the different views of the government of Slovakia and NATO on the Russian-Ukrainian conflict will not complicate the constructive dialogue between them.
