Michal Mašek, SR coach: “I am sportingly angry. Today was the day when we should have managed it. The Bulgarian women didn’t know what to do for two sets. Unfortunately, we didn’t keep it up. It’s a terrible shame, I will blame myself for not finishing it. We didn’t hold on with our strength, our game went down. We made unnecessary errors on the serve, we rushed, we were not patient enough. We got out of tune. I’m terribly upset with sportsmanship. We should have been in the top eight, we will regret that for a long time.”

Karin Palgutová, captain of SR: “I don’t have many words. Winning 2:0 and losing 2:3 is a big shame. We had a good start, we pushed them for two sets and it broke in the third. We probably lost our concentration. The Bulgarians stopped making mistakes, they pushed us and that was the problem.”

Karin Šunderlíková, Slovak all-rounder: “A good start, a bad end. We started really aggressively, we attacked hard and defended well. Then the Bulgarians took over, they started to press us on the serve, they pulled us away from the net and then we had a problem with handling the ball. The Bulgarians took over and we fell asleep, even when we were talking to each other in the fifth set that it’s 0:0 again. It’s a terrible shame and we’re very sorry, because we had them.”

Michaela Abrhámová, SR blocker: “We are very sorry for the loss. We had a good start and we failed to take the most important step – to win the third set. We were close, we had the Bulgarians broken, but they showed experience and did not give up. They started playing their game, pushed us with serve and we they didn’t find the key to them anymore. After the second set, they changed something tactically, the serve changed, and then we couldn’t score.”

Barbora Koseková, SR recorder: “Now it is very difficult to evaluate the match realistically. Unfortunately, we lost the same thing. We were leading 2:0, we had a good game. The better teams know how to cheer and wake up even in unfavorable conditions. The Bulgarians started playing better and we they didn’t stop. They started playing more like a team, we couldn’t make it to the happy end. Now it hurts, we were one step away from the top of volleyball.”
