Slovak Women’s Biathlon Team Disappoints in Ruhpolding World Cup Relay

Biathlon World Cup – Rupholding

Women’s 4×6 km relay – women

RUHPOLDING, BRATISLAVA. Slovak female biathletes achieved the worst result so far in the relay competition of this World Cup season.

In Ruhpolding, they took 18th place, when Ema Kapustová was overtaken by her rivals by a whole lap on the third section.

Zuzana Remeňová started the relay this time. She handed over to Sister Mária in the 17th place. In the second section, Slovakia fell by one more place. The loss was mounting as a result of a below-average run. On the shooting range, the Remen managed to avoid penalty rounds.

French triumph

However, Ema Kapustová did not succeed in the third section. The youngest member of the national team did not show excellent shooting performance and missed the first four shots while shooting while standing and had to go to the penalty circle. She didn’t finish it because her rivals caught up with her for a whole lap.

In the course of the season so far, it was the women’s relay that surprised when it won 13th place twice and 14th once.

The triumph was enjoyed by the French women, who were moved to first place by Julia Simonová in the last section. The second place was taken by the Swedes with a loss of 9 seconds. German biathletes finished in 3rd place.

The surprise is the 10th place of the Norwegians, who finished with a loss of more than three minutes. They fell behind already from the first section, where Skoganová ran two penalty circles.

The next relay competition will take place at the world championship in Novi Mesto in Moravia.

The coach did not expect such results from Kapustová

Junior Ema Kapustová entered the world biathlon this season and exceeded all expectations. She already won 31 points in the World Cup and has the best positions among all Slovak representatives. At the same time, she is the youngest and has the least experience.

“We did not expect such placements. Especially not the points, because you again improved your maximum in the World Cup. We are still concentrating on the Junior EC and WC. This is something extra for us, which can help Ema learn how to compete,” described Ema Kapustová’s coach Martin Otčenáš for slovenskybiatlon.sk.

The Slovak junior is the best scorer in the World Cup. Before the race in Ruhpolding, she had a success rate of up to 93.55 percent. Although during the past weekend in the relay in Oberhof, she had three errors while shooting while standing and had to use three spare cartridges.

“I’m sure that sooner or later a mistake will come at the shooting range. It’s good that it happened in the relay and even better that she was able to deal with it and was able to describe every mistake. For Emu, it is a college,” said the Father.

Even the shooting in Ruhpolding was not successful for the young biathlete. In two relays, she missed 7 of 18 shots on the floor. With the exception of these two competitions, however, she shot excellently in the season. She hit everything in five individual competitions.

According to the coach, Kapustová will probably complete the last round of the World Cup this season in Ruhpolding. After the relay, there are still speed races waiting for her, and she can also qualify for the pursuit race.

In the next course of the season, Kapustová should concentrate on junior events. “From what she could do, she overachieved. I won’t ask her to travel anywhere else. In my opinion, he has done enough,” Otčenáš added.

The World Cup in Ruhpolding continues on Thursday with the men’s relay competition. The women’s speed races follow on Friday.
