On Tuesday, the Slovak under-20 ice hockey team will enter the world championship of this age category in Gothenburg, Sweden, against their peers from the Czech Republic.
news-item-description">Already on Tuesday at 12:00 p.m., Slovakia’s ice hockey players will play their first match at the Under-20 World Championship against the Czech Republic. Why will this be an extremely important duel? What are our chances and why could we win a medal? And where are our strongest and weakest points? All this is analyzed in a large overview by the moderator Marián Lontoš, ŠPORT.sk editor Martin Toth-Vaňo and Denník Šport editor Matej Deraj.
Striker Dalibor Dvorský hopes that the Slovak selection will experience a successful start to the tournament. “We have to focus on our performance. If we play our game, I think we will win because we have great quality in the team.” said the 18-year-old native of Zvolen in a video of the Slovak Ice Hockey Association (SZĽH).
A year ago at the MSJ in Canada, the Slovaks made it to the quarter-finals, in which they lost to the local youngsters after a tough fight 3:4 after extra time. Canadian hockey players finally won the gold. Even the mentioned Czechs, who will be the first opponents of the Slovak team at this year’s championship, did not stop them in the final.
Another attacker, Martin Mišiak, is aware that it will be a difficult duel on Tuesday, as it will be a so-called federal derby. “I think we’re all ready and we can’t wait for it to finally start. The Czechs will skate very well, so we have to play 100 percent right from the start. I think it will mainly be about us and when we play our hockey, it will be fine.” Mišiak noted.
news-item-description">The Slovakian under-20 hockey team spent perhaps the most beautiful Christmas in Sweden in recent years before the start of the junior championship. At the cottage in Kinna, 50 kilometers from Gothenburg, she was hosted by the large family of Zdenko Sojka with his wife Katka and five daughters with a traditional Slovak generous dinner. Born in Central Slovakia, he has lived in Scandinavia for over twenty years. The portal hockeyslovakia.sk informed about it.
The young Slovaks will also fight against the Swiss (December 27), Norwegians (December 29) and the Americans (December 31) to advance from the basic B-group to the quarterfinals.
