Slovak Skier Petra Vlhová’s Search for Victory in Courchevel – A Look at Her Performance in World Cup Races

BRATISLAVA. The French resort of Courchevel is one of the regular stops of the World Cup.

Skiers last competed here at the 2023 World Championships. Men in Courchevel, women across the valley in Méribel.

She has appeared regularly in the prestigious series since 2011. Wendy Holdenerová, Anna Swennová Larssonová or Lena Dürrová took part in the slalom at that time.

However, the last slalom race was held at the center in 2018. Mikaela Shiffrinová won it before Petra Vlhová.

She did not reach victory

The Slovak skier first appeared on the slopes in 2012. At the age of seventeen, she won the slalom race of the European Cup.

Since 2017, she has performed eleven times in Courchevel.

She has never won a SP race here. She was second twice. First in the parallel slalom in 2017, when she was not enough for Mikaela Shiffrin in the final.

A year later, the same order was repeated in the classic slalom. Three years ago, she finished third in the giant slalom.

On the program was mostly ‘robber’

The Slovak has struggled in Courchevel in recent years.

At the WC finals in 2022, she made her first appearance there in the speed disciplines, when she finished outside the points in 16th and 17th place. In the final, only the first fifteen best competitors score points.

The technical disciplines were then held in Méribel, as was the women’s part of the World Championships.

FIS World Cup at JOJ Sport No live broadcast is planned for the next 3 weeks.

Two years ago, two giant slaloms were raced in Courchevel. The Slovak finished fourth and fifth. In 2020, she was eliminated in the first round in the giant slalom.

“It’s an interesting slope, I really like it. Everything is there, flat, steep and waves. It will be about how the track will be prepared so that the conditions are the same for everyone,” Vlhová indicated in the past.

Rest before a demanding program

The native of Liptovský Mikuláš took a break from competitive skiing in the last two weeks. After returning from overseas, she missed the speed disciplines in St. Moritz and in Val d’Isere and concentrated on training.

“We were clear that going to St. It would not be a good strategy for Moritz. We needed one week to rest to overcome the fatigue.

Likewise, to be ideally prepared not only for Courchevel, but also for the demanding January program. We did it mainly because we want Petra to repeat her slalom performances from Levi and the “snags” from Mont-Tremblant in the next race,” said coach Mauro Pini.

The twenty-eight-year-old specialist in technical disciplines has completed four giant slaloms and three slaloms so far this season.

The Slovak recorded one victory and three podium places.

“I rate it very positively. My performances were stable. Although there was also one tenth place and an outage in Levi, but overall it was stable. Top five or podium, that’s the best.

If we are to evaluate the previous two months, I perceive it very positively,” said the winner of a total of 29 races in the World Cup in an interview with Sport Management Company (SMC).

The center testifies to the leader

Courchevel is one of the most successful events in the World Cup for Shiffrin.

She has already won here seven times – three times in giant slalom, twice in slalom and once in parallel slalom and downhill. The French center suits her.

After arriving overseas, the American skier did not rest and presented herself in speed disciplines. In the convention in St. Moritzi was able to win over Sofia Goggio and in the super-G she finished just short of the podium.

“Winning a World Cup race is difficult and I don’t take it for granted,” the downhill winner told FIS. In the discipline, she recorded only the fourth triumph in her career, with a total of 91.

In Val d’Isere, she only competed in the super giant slalom, which she did not finish.

The American is at the head of the overall ranking. In the current season, she recorded three victories – twice in slalom and once in downhill. She was third in the giant slalom three times.

The defender of the big globe also leads the order of the slalom discipline. Petra Vlhová is third, losing seventy points to Shiffrinová.
