Details: The Prime Minister of Slovakia has long opposed military assistance to Ukraine. From Fico’s statement it follows that his disapproval concerns only possible deliveries of weapons and ammunition from the warehouses of the Slovak army.
“If a company wants to produce weapons and supply them somewhere, of course, no one will interfere with this,” Fico said.
The Slovak Prime Minister also promised to “do everything possible to help Ukraine in humanitarian terms.”
“I assume that one of these things could be mine clearance. There is a huge amount of mined areas and unexploded ordnance,” Fico said.
He also announced the possibility of providing medical assistance or assistance with the repair of civilian facilities.
At the same time, Slovakia’s new Defense Minister Robert Kaliniak wants to reconsider some of the commercial arms contracts already in place, but he did not provide further details.
Among the valid contracts under which Ukraine expects to receive Slovak weapons is an agreement on the supply of howitzers. Germany, Denmark and Norway announced a year ago that will purchase 16 Zuzana-2 howitzers for Ukraine Slovak production.
Earlier, the Prime Minister of Slovakia confirmed that will not support military aid to Ukrainebecause “it’s better to negotiate peace for 10 years than to kill each other for 10 years without any results.”
