A member of the wider selection of the Slovak national football team, Matúš Rusnák, is leaving MŠK Žilina and heading to the Czech top league, where he will wear the jersey of Baník Ostrava from January.
“I think now is my time to move on and try something different. I feel that I also needed a new impulse. In any case, it was an honor for me to be a Shoshone and to defend the colors of Žilina,” quotes the 24-year-old native of Levice official website of the Žilina peoplewho decided to head to Baník in Ostrava to meet the former national team coach of Slovakia, Pavlo Hapal.

Rusnák was no longer interested in continuing in Žilina
Sports manager MŠK Karol Belaník also confirms that Rusnák needed a change: “He was one of the oldest in the team, he needed some change, new motivation, the next step. There was interest in him from several clubs, he decided on Baník, which could be a good address for him. Our former coach Pavel Hapal is there, and he wanted him,” stated Belaník, according to whom Rusnák made significant progress during his time at the club.
However, his contract ended next summer, so it was time to move on. Also due to the lack of interest in continuing with “yellow-green”.

Belaník said it: “We have been negotiating a new contract with him since the summer, but he had no interest or desire to stay here for another period. His contract ended in the summer. We let him play the autumn part in almost full minutes, then we started to deal with it and it was agreed quickly. He played something here and we didn’t want to hinder him, spoil his transfer. We want to wish him the best of luck in his future career.”
Baník was said to be not the only club that was interested in a player with a market value of 550,000 euros. Žilina is already working on his replacement. “We are currently working on alternatives and a possible reinforcement, which could be confirmed in the coming days,” added Karol Belaník.
