The Košice State Theater drew attention to the sad news on Facebook. Hochel was only 47 years old.
“It is with deep sadness that we received the news of the death of music publicist and dramaturg Peter Hochel, who was a long-time collaborator of the ŠDKE Opera and worked as a dramaturgist on several opera productions,” the post reads.
Hochel graduated in composition at the State Conservatory in Bratislava. He worked at the Department of Music Education of the Faculty of Education of the Catholic University in Ružomberok. As a composer, he collaborated with countless institutions, ensembles and soloists, and won numerous awards for his piano playing. He was engaged in concert and theater dramaturgy.
“The Košice State Theater is dedicating to him with great respect a performance of Giuseppe Verdi’s opera Otello on Friday, March 31, on which he collaborated as a dramaturgist.
