LIBEREC – Slovak hockey players won silver medals in a total of four categories at the Junior World Championships in Liberec. The under-20 and under-23 selection was completed this week by players under the age of 18 and women under the age of 21.
The Slovak “eighteen” defeated all opponents in the basic group, including Canada, and defeated the overseas team 4:2 in the semifinals as well. However, in their last match at the tournament, Ľubomír Liška’s team lost to the home team Czech Republic 2:3.
The under-21 juniors defeated the Czechs in the semi-finals 6:4 thanks to Nela Lopušanová’s hat trick. In the final, however, they lost to the Canadians just 0:1.
The World Championship under the banner of the International Ice Hockey Federation (ISBHF) will take place in Slovakia in 2024. The date and venue of the tournament will be announced in mid-July.
