Slovak hockey goalie Jaroslav Halák is going to try out for the NHL club Carolina Hurricanes. He should replace Frederik Andersen, who has health problems, in the team. “Canes” informed about it on social networks.

The 38-year-old goalkeeper came to Carolina as a free agent, last season he worked for the New York Rangers, for which he caught 25 games with an average of 2.72 goals conceded per game and a 90.3% save success rate. During his overseas career, he also played for Vancouver, Boston, NY Islanders, Washington, Buffalo, St. Louis and Montreal, who drafted him in 2003 from the 271st place. In the professional league, he played 581 games of the regular season with an average of 2.50 goals and a 91.5% success rate and picked up 53 shutouts. In 39 playoff meetings, he has a balance of 2.48 conceded goals per game and a 91.9% success rate.

Halák is a two-time winner of the William M. Jennings Trophy for the goalkeeper with the fewest goals conceded in the regular season. In 2012, he won it with Brian Elliott in St. Louis and in the 2019/20 season with Tuukka Rask in Boston.

Carolina did not provide further information about Andersen’s health problems and will provide details only when it is possible. Antti Raanta and Piotr Kočetkov also started in the goalkeeper position for the Canes this season.
