Slovak former police chiefs arrested in murdered journalist case | Abroad

Slovak TV showed images of the arrests of at least four former high-ranking police officers. Since the murders, the Slovak police has been investigating corrupt networks within the judicial and police circles.
A 37-year-old ex-soldier was sentenced to 23 years in prison in April for carrying out the contract killings. The supposed mastermind behind the murder, the influential businessman Marián Kocner, was acquitted in September.

Justice has appealed. Prosecutors said the millionaire wanted revenge because Kuciak had written critical messages about him. Kocner is also serving a 19-year prison sentence for a fraud case.
The murders sparked protests across the country and the fall of the then government of Prime Minister Robert Fico.
