Slovak Footballers in EURO 2024 Baskets: Group Draw, Composition and Tournament Start Date

Slovak footballers qualified for a major tournament for the fourth time, and for the European championship for the third time. The group draw for next year’s championship in Germany will take place on December 2 in Hamburg. What is the distribution of baskets?

They sorted the twenty-four participants of the EC into four performance baskets according to the results achieved in the qualification. The second teams in the qualification groups were ranked after the group winners, regardless of the number of points obtained. That’s why Slovakia is in the 3rd basket, despite the fact that it got more points than Albania, which is in the 2nd basket, but won its qualifying group. Results against the bottom teams in groups of six did not count.

The organizer of the championship, Germany, has a guaranteed place in the A-group from the 1st basket. The list of participants is not yet complete, the last three will emerge from the March playoff.

Coach Francesco Calzona’s wards balanced between the 3rd and 4th performance basket before the last day of play. From this point of view, with an important victory in Bosnia and Herzegovina, they secured a place in the 3rd basket and thus a more favorable position before the draw.

In the semifinals of the A-branch, the island team will meet one of the trio Finland, Ukraine, Iceland, the opponent will be determined by Thursday’s draw.

The Slovaks will certainly not meet the Netherlands, Scotland, Slovenia, the Czech Republic and Croatia in the group. The 1st performance basket features exclusively giants. The reigning European champions, the Italians, are only in the 4th basket after a not entirely successful qualification, and all the higher seeded teams will want to avoid them.

Perhaps the most difficult composition of the group for Slovakia is the company with the French, Danes and Italians. Several variations, however, give Francesco Calzona’s men a real chance to think about progressing to the knockout stage. From the six groups of four, the first two and the four best teams from third place will advance to the round of 16.

The tournament will start on June 14 with a duel between Germany in Munich’s Allianz Arena, and the final will take place exactly one month later at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin.
