In connection with the decision of the Government of Slovakia to donate MiG-29 fighters and anti-aircraft missile systems “Kub” to Ukraine, the Russian Embassy in the country recalled Moscow’s position on the matter. This was announced by the Russian Foreign Ministry.
According to Moscow, the supply of weapons and military equipment, including aircraft, to Ukraine will not help to settle the conflict in Ukraine, but it will only continue the hostilities and increase the number of casualties, including civilian casualties.
Donation of Soviet/Russian military systems to Kiev is technically illegal because the relevant Russian-Slovak agreements unequivocally prohibit the transfer of weapons and military equipment to third countries without the approval of the producing country, the embassy recalls.

Bratislava must realize that its increasingly active involvement in providing military support to the regime in Kiev can lead to an unpredictable and dangerous escalation of the conflict and that the initiators of such decisions will be brought under full responsibility, call the Russian authorities.
We recall that earlier on Friday, Russia threatened that all fighter jets supplied to Ukraine by Western countries would be destroyed.
Moscow’s warning came after NATO members Poland and Slovakia pledged to send MiG-29 jets to Kiev.
After the Russian invasion last year, NATO countries sent billions of dollars in military aid to Ukraine in response to Kiev’s request for weapons it says are vital to repel Russian forces.
Moscow has accused the West of being directly involved in the conflict with its arms supplies to Ukraine and has already warned that NATO weapons are legitimate targets for its forces.
Slovakia ordered F-16 fighter jets from the United States in 2018 to replace its aging MiG-29 jets. Slovakia’s fleet of 13 MiG-29s was decommissioned last summer and most of them are not in serviceable condition.
