Due to the lack of the mentioned components on Monday and Tuesday, the Slovak division of Volkswagen does not produce sports utility vehicles (SUVs), which form the main part of the production of the Bratislava car factory. After problems with the supply of chips, the plant stopped this part of production for two weeks at the turn of April and May.

Volkswagen manufactures Audi Q7, Audi Q8, Volkswagen Touareg, Porsche Cayenne and Škoda Karoq models in Slovakia as part of SUV assembly. The production of the Karoq model was not affected by the interruption of production, as the factory assembles these cars on the line together with small city vehicles, the production of which has not been suspended.

Already on Sunday, the assembly lines were stopped by the Slovak division of the Stellantis group, which produces Peugeot 208 and Citroën C3 vehicles in Trnava in western Slovakia. Production will be suspended until Tuesday due to a shortage of semiconductor components. For the same reason, the company has repeatedly suspended production since March this year, and according to Stellantis factory spokesman Peter Švec, the plant has canceled around 50 work shifts for the time being.

Manufacturers do not catch up
Chip manufacturers primarily supply computer and telephone manufacturers. In addition, chips are used in more and more fields, they are also mounted, for example, in toothbrushes or alarm clocks.

Chip manufacturers, located primarily in Taiwan and South Korea, are unable to supply. The demand for electronics in frequent home offices increased and many factories had forced shutdowns.
