Slovak actor and ex-minister Ľubo Roman died

Roman was born in Malacky in western Slovakia and started acting at the age of 14. From 1966 to 2001 he was a member of the New Stage Theater in Bratislava. From 1991 to 1996, he also headed the New Stage.

He was also active in politics. In 1994, he was Minister of Culture in the government of Prime Minister Jozef Moravčík. In 1998 he became a member of the Slovak parliament and in 2004 he ran for president, but he eventually resigned in favor of Eduard Kukan. He became the first chairman of the Bratislava self-governing region.

At the age of 13, he lost both parents and grew up with an older brother and a younger sister. At the age of fourteen, he starred in the Slovak-Hungarian co-production film The Umbrella of St. Peter. He studied acting at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava. His most important films include the role in director Štefan Uher’s The Sun in the Net. He was one of the busiest television and film actors in Slovakia.
