Slovácko’s Struggles: Is This the Beginning of the End?

In the previous three seasons, it finished in the top five each time and won the MOL Cup famously the year before. In addition, it tasted European cups twice in a row, including the main stage of the Conference League in the fall of 2022. The Slovakian was also successful last fall, but is struggling in the spring. The aging team is no longer as fresh as it used to be, it is brought down by unnecessary mistakes and also pays for the reserves in the offensive: in seven games this year, it has scored only eight goals. Would that be the beginning of the end?

“I think even coach Svědík knows that he has already squeezed the maximum out of the squad. I’m almost surprised that Svědík and his staff lasted this long. But once they had to run out of breath. Especially when we add the absence of the injured stopper Michal Kadlec, who holds the defense in Slovácko and it is very noticeable when he is missing,” explained Rajnoch.

He himself played in Slovácko for over two years, but the most successful era of the club from Uherské Hradiště came with the renowned hard worker Svědík. He started his mission in Uherské Hradiště in November 2018 and is the second longest serving coach in the league after the famous player Jindřich Trpišovský.

“The witness in Slovácko did an amazing job, but now it’s over. The squad hasn’t changed much lately, only two reinforcements came in the winter. Svědík might have imagined a bigger change in the team, but Slovácko’s possibilities are probably not like that. The club cannot take much from the youth either, because it is not doing very well in the youth league. A big cut needs to be made so that it doesn’t go downhill even more,” remarked Rajnoch.

A glance at the table: four rounds before the end of the regular season, Slovácko is sixth by a score behind Mlada Boleslaví, and Liberec is four points ahead of seventh place. “I still believe that the coach will be able to instill confidence in the team and that Slovácko will manage the end of the regular season in such a way as to remain in the top six,” said Rajnoch.

He mentioned one more necessary goal for Slovácko: setting up scouting. In the winter, only the Austrian striker Marko Kvasina (110 league minutes in the spring) and the Slovak midfielder Patrik Blahút, who fit in well with the team, came. “He performed well in the last match against Slavia, but it would like to bring in more new players. From lower competitions, from youth, from neighboring states,” outlined Rajnoch. “This is going to be a long-term job and the club has to expect that it will hurt a bit.”
