View the summary of FC Volendam – Feyenoord
Feyenoord failed to win in the Premier League on Thursday evening. When they visited last-place FC Volendam, the Rotterdam team did not get further than a 0-0 draw.
Prior to this match, Feyenoord had scored in forty consecutive away games in the Premier League, a series dating back to November 2021.
Due to the loss of points, the gap to leader PSV is again nine points. With six rounds still to go, that seems like an almost unbridgeable gap for the reigning champion from Rotterdam.
Pro Shots Vivaldo Semedo
In the opening phase, it was home team Volendam that had the best chances. Zach Booth and Darius Johnson both became dangerous, but fell just short of scoring.
Next to them, Vivaldo Semedo made a strong impression. The Portuguese striker, who seems to have played Robert Mühren out of the starting line-up, created some good chances. First he hit the post after being nicely released by Thomas Beelen and Dávid Hancko, later he lobbed the ball just over the goal.
Watch the reaction of Feyenoord coach Arne Slot and his Volendam colleague Regillio Simons:
Feyenoord in turn set up two attempts from Santiago Gimenez. However, the Mexican did not become dangerous with either shot: the first went over, the second was straight at the keeper.
Calvin Stengs came closest to a goal just before half-time, when he was able to shoot with his favorite left hand from about twenty meters. That attempt missed the mark.
It was the story of the first half: Feyenoord had plenty of room to play football, but failed to do so carefully. The Rotterdam team suffered a lot of unnecessary loss of ball and did not deal neatly with the opportunities they were given.
Pro ShotsYankuba Minteh
A similar spectacle took place in the second half. Feyenoord was dominant without becoming really dangerous, while FC Volendam tried to strike via the counter.
The most remarkable moments came via Gimenez, who was heavily hindered to shoot from the turn and perhaps could have claimed a penalty, and Igor Paixão, who aimed a free kick just wide.
Strohalm FC Volendam
Despite several attacking substitutions by Feyenoord coach Arne Slot, who brought in Ayase Ueda, Ondrej Lingr and Leo Sauer, among others, no more goals were scored. The fourteen minutes of injury time in the second half did not change that.
FC Volendam achieved a good result against a top team, but the club from the fishing village was little helped by a point. It is still six points behind sixteenth place, which would avert direct relegation.
The result is a straw for Volendam, which had lost each of the eight home matches before this. Moreover, goalkeeper Mio Backhaus kept a clean sheet for only the second time this season, after previously succeeding against FC Utrecht.
