Earlier, the minister had already made adjustments for the final exams for this school year. For example, students can spread their exams over two periods and get an extra resit.
Nevertheless, various educational parties, including the student organization LAKS, do not think that the exams can take place in that form because students cannot prepare properly. Moreover, the current final exam students were already behind last school year due to corona, said LAKS chairman Nienke Luijckx on Thursday.
Slob was going to discuss this with LAKS and other parties around the spring break, but has decided to have those talks already. The minister said that “he should conclude that some of the students may start the exam period with a delay.” He wants to ‘do justice to this as much as possible’ while at the same time ensuring that secondary school students can progress to further education. He will announce around spring break what the exams will ultimately look like this year.
Earlier, the cabinet had already allocated hundreds of millions of euros to catch up this school year. The minister is also quick to come up with a long-term plan to tackle educational disadvantage. What that plan will look like in outline, for example how long it will run and how much it will cost, he will announce in February. However, it has already been promised that the cabinet can provide multi-year financial support for this.
