Slipknot’s Sid Wilson has opened up about the injuries he suffered following a bonfire explosion.
After it was reported that he had been hospitalized with “severe burns” to his face and arms, the musician spoke to Fox News about the healing process.
“My whole right arm is bandaged, half of my left arm too,” he said of his injuries. “My face is practically melted from the nose down.
“But the swelling went down and they said the face was pretty amazing, it was regenerative, it was happening really fast, it seemed to heal quickly. I’ve had better days, I guess, but I’m alive, so I’m good.”
Wilson said he was burned during a bonfire at the Iowa farm where he lives with Kelly Osbourne and their two-year-old child, Sidney.
“A few nights ago I lit a bonfire and let it burn,” he said. “The next day I went to check what was left, if there was any left. There was still some debris on the side, so like an idiot I did what I wasn’t supposed to do, but I added gasoline to it.”
Wilson was rushed to hospital and then transferred to another hospital in Des Moines, and reassured fans on Instagram that he was “doing fine,” while joking that Osbourne “had the Florence Nightingale effect” on him.
He said he won’t let his injury get him down. “The hardest part is feeling stupid for doing it,” he said. “It’s not even the physical part. It’s like, ‘Oh, man, I really learned that the hard way.’ I have to make sure I slow down sometimes and really examine the situation before I jump in.”
Slipknot released a statement on social media following the incident, saying: “Our brother Sid Wilson was in an accident today and suffered burns all over his body. He is recovering with his family and will be joining us on stage at Rocklahoma next weekend. He thanks everyone for their well wishes and will see you soon.”
Slipknot are currently touring North America in support of their album ‘Here Comes The Pain’, which celebrates the 25th anniversary of their 1999 self-titled debut. They’ve performed the album in its entirety, including a concert at Madison Square Garden in New York City, which you can watch in full here.
