Classic. The autumn chamber music festival will be closed by the outstanding quartet on Sunday 23 October Ebony from Paris – for more than twenty years it was one of the most beautiful, versatile and attractive chamber music ensembles in the world. In August the quartet performed at the Salzburg Festival, while in early October the group was presented with a magazine in London Gramophone award for the best chamber music recording (album ‘Around midnight). “We need inspiration from the audience,” emphasizes the quartet’s cellist Rafael Merlen, who is also a composer and teacher. The collective manifests itself not only in the classical repertoire, but also in jazz. Quartet Ebony on the program, in the Dzintari concert hall, the Fantasies by Henry Purcell, the First Quartet for strings by Đerģ Ligeti (Nocturnal metamorphosis) and Robert Schuman’s first string quartet.

Saturday 22 October, in Cēsis, there will be a unique opportunity to listen to the violin concerto by Russian composer Sofia Gubaidulina Offertory Performed by Gidon Kremer and the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra. This violin concerto, recognized as a classic of the second half of the 20th century, is dedicated to Gidon Krämer and its first performance in 1981 brought the composer to worldwide recognition. Solo. Tonight, the brilliant pianist Juris Žvikovs will perform at the Autumn Chamber Music Festival in the Spīķeru concert hall. Juris Žvikovs will play the work of John Cage, John Adams, Henry Cowell, George Cram, Philip Glass and Lou Harrison. Before. New Riga Theater art director Alvis Hermanis staged a show by Jaela Ronen and Dimitrija Šadas Operation Mindfuck.
