Public Health France reports 155,711 cases of contamination with the SARS-CoV2 virus, compared to 25,465 on Tuesday (a low figure after a long three-day weekend, because it took into account the results of the day before, when a number of laboratories and pharmacies are closed). The average of infections over the last seven days, which smooths out statistical jolts, stands at 94,565 against 93,238 on Tuesday and 131,369 a week ago.
On Wednesday, hospitals had 25,179 patients with Covid-19, compared to 25,277 the day before, but 24,778 a week ago. Of these 25,179 patients, 1,677 were in critical care (which receives the most serious cases), against 1,681 on Tuesday and 1,650 on Wednesday April 13.
The epidemic has caused the death of 221 people in 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths in France to 144,608 in just over two years.
