Sledgehammer Games Reorganizes and Prepares to Lead Call of Duty in 2027

Sledgehammer Games, one of Activision’s internal studios, is undergoing a major reorganization. Despite these changes, they do not stop the team from working and planning the next part of the popular Call of Duty series. Sledgehammer Games will reportedly become lead creators of Call of Duty in 2027, meaning the shooter will be in development for over three years.

This became known to the intragaming portal Insider Gaming, which was able to communicate with one of the employees of Sledgehammer Games. As it turned out, the studio lost its main office in California in early 2024 and is now looking for a new place to work – in a smaller office. The move should not affect the development of future games, as employees have been moved to fully remote work.

Developers will temporarily work from home on Call of Duty in 2027, insiders said. Their colleagues from Infinity Ward, meanwhile, are working on Call of Duty 2026, which is expected to be released in the Modern Warfare universe. As for Call of Duty 2025, it is known that the shooter is planned as a semi-futuristic sequel to Black Ops 2, codenamed Saturn.
