The Chinese company CITIC Group should remain the majority owner of Slavia football. The chairman of the board of the Prague club, Jaroslav Tvrdík, stated that the management had rejected the offer from an unnamed candidate.
According to the Seznam Zprávy server, the American investment group Blackstone or its sister company Globalon wanted to join Slavia.
“The shareholder SK Slavia received an offer to establish a strategic partnership from a renowned and respected partner. We consider the offer to be an appreciation of the club’s excellent work in recent years. We respect that the majority shareholder has decided to keep the club fully owned,” Tvrdík wrote on Twitter.
The list reports that Blackstone contacted Slavia about two months ago and then diverted the negotiations to Globalon. Ivan Bravo, the former strategic director of Real Madrid and the current head of the Qatari Aspire Academy, was to represent him at the meetings with Tvrdík.
Globalon, which owns, for example, the Dutch ADO Den Haag or the Portuguese Estoril, allegedly sought a 50% entry into the Vršovice club and also accepted the retention of the current management. But CITIC eventually rejected the transaction.
Slavia has had Chinese owners since the autumn of 2015, CITIC has been the practically 100% owner of the Czech champion since June this year.
